endeavors. MERIC emphasizes the testing of new products and methods,
and the training of surgical personnel in specific techniques. It is
also home to a biomechanics research laboratory, which operates under the direction of John Elias, Ph.D.
MERIC
occupies 5,200 ft of the Premier Health Plaza in central Colorado Springs.
The 100,000 ft building was completed in fall of 2001 and contains an
outpatient surgery center, medical office space, medical imaging facilities,
and physical therapy facilities. Five
surgical suites, including two with a shared observation room, are conveniently
located adjacent to MERIC. Physician specialties represented in the
building include orthopedics (with subspecialties in sports medicine,
spine, joint replacement, foot and ankle, and hand), ENT, plastic surgery, women's care/breast care, pain management, podiatry, and general surgery. This
innovative endeavor is unique to the Rocky Mountain region and is dedicated
to the enhancement of patient care through research and education. A
